Noosa Concours d’Elegance | Mercedes-Benz 770 K Pullman Cabriolet

#7
1930 Mercedes-Benz 770 K Pullman Cabriolet

Engine: 7.7 litre - 8 cylinder
Output: 200 horsepower

Introduced in 1930, the W07 generation of the Mercedes-Benz 770 was engineered and built to be the world’s finest luxury car. Built exclusively to order, just 107 examples were produced, with the majority lost during the war. Surviving cars are exceptionally rare with most now held in museum collections around the world.

This supercharged 770 K was originally delivered to King Faisal I of Iraq. Following his passing, it was inherited by his son, King Ghazi I, and later by his grandson, King Faisal II, in 1954.

In late 1966, the car was acquired by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, where it remained for 55 years. It participated in numerous shows held at the Speedway and at times ventured onto the track for special parade laps. It was selectively restored as needed, including the installation of a new leather interior in 2007.

The car retains its original, numbers-matching engine and still wears its Arabic license plates from the Iraqi royal household.
