Noosa Concours d’Elegance | Maserati Khamsin

#34
1974 Maserati Khamsin

Engine: 4.9 litre - 8 cylinder
Output: 320 horsepower

The Maserati Khamsin was designed and built during Maserati’s Citroën ownership era. Named after a hot North African desert wind, the Khamsin debuted as a concept at the 1972 Turin Auto Show.

It became Maserati’s first series-production model to be designed by Bertone, under the renowned pen of Marcello Gandini. The result was a sleek, wedge-shaped profile with refined proportions - an elegant expression of 1970s Italian design.

Just 435 cars were produced between 1974 and 1982. Production numbers remained low due to the global energy crisis, which significantly reduced demand for large-capacity grand tourers. Today, surviving examples are highly coveted by collectors.

This car is one of the rare Australian-delivered examples, sold new in Melbourne in 1974. Never shown publicly until now, it has recently completed a cosmetic restoration and retains a high level of originality, delivering a timeless blend of design excellence and Maserati’s grand touring legacy.
