The Maserati Bora holds a special place in the marque’s history as its first production car to adopt a mid-engine layout. Developed under Citroën ownership, the Bora combined Maserati’s performance pedigree with Citroën’s advanced hydraulic systems and technical innovation.
Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Bora’s sleek fastback design perfectly complements its dynamic, sporting character. Powered by a 4.7-litre V8 positioned behind the cabin, this configuration set the template for Maserati’s future high-performance road cars. Despite its capability, Bora production was limited by the mid-1970s oil crisis and racing homologation challenges, with just 524 examples produced between 1971 and 1978.
This car is particularly rare, believed to be the sixth right-hand drive Bora produced, with only 27 factory-built right-hand drive examples ever made. Imported to Australia from the UK in 2010, it underwent a comprehensive five-year bare-metal restoration, showcasing this matching-numbers Bora’s timeless appeal.
