Noosa Concours d’Elegance | Lamborghini Countach LP400 ‘Periscopio’

#10
1977 Lamborghini Countach LP400 ‘Periscopio’

Engine: 3.9 litre - 12 cylinder
Output: 370 horsepower - 272kW

Unveiled at the 1971 Geneva Motor Show, the Lamborghini Countach LP400 was in development for three years before finally hitting the road in 1974. Designed by Marcello Gandini, its sharp, angular lines and scissor doors set a design trend that is carried into the present day.

Known as the ‘Periscopio’ due to a small periscopic mirror in the original prototype, this LP400 is among the rarest, with just 150 cars produced and only 22 as original factory right hand drives. Powered by Lamborghini's well established 4L V12 engine, the LP400 delivers 370 horsepower via a 5-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels.

Collected directly from the Lamborghini factory in Sant’Agata Bolognese by its Australian owners in June 1977, the car was taken on a European grand tour before being shipped to Australia in 1978. The car was then converted to a LP400S specification, before later being restored to its original LP400 guise, including a repaint in its authentic Rosso red.

Today, the LP400 Periscopio remains one of the most collectible and historically significant supercars ever built.
