Built exclusively by Holden Motor Body Builders and sold as production models from 1931 to 1932 and only to the Australian market, the Chevrolet Moonlight Speedster bodies were hand-formed in aluminium over a timber frame on a right-hand drive imported Chevrolet chassis, using as much Australian content as possible.
Found in a timber yard in 1955 by George and Dennis Lane, and subsequently painted white by the Lanes, it was totally restored in the late 1970s by Darryl Stark who painted it in Ford GT Falcon Candy Apple Red.
In 2019-2020 the vehicle underwent a bare metal re-restoration and was painted in its original factory colour scheme of Glamour Red (two tone maroon) to replicate as closely as possible how it would have looked when new on the showroom floor in 1932.
Now restored to its former glory, this Moonlight Speedster is the sole known survivor worldwide of as few as 10 built and is a real testament to the skills of Australian tradesmen during the infancy of our motoring heritage.
