Noosa Concours d’Elegance | BMW 315/1 Roadster

#1
1935 BMW 315/1 Roadster

Engine: 1.5 litre - 6 cylinder
Output: 40 horsepower

The rarest variant of BMW’s popular 315 series, the 315/1 Roadster was a lightweight, performance-focused machine developed for both road use and motorsport. Powered by a 1.5-litre straight-six fitted with triple side-draft carburettors, it featured independent front suspension, a live rear axle with semi-elliptical springs, and hydraulic dampers, providing balance and agility well ahead of its time. Just 242 examples were produced, with many campaigned in period circuit racing and hill climbs.

This example was delivered on 14 April 1935 to its first owner in Augsburg, Bavaria, originally finished in green with grey upholstery. Registered in Switzerland by 1960, it passed through three Swiss owners before being acquired by its former owner in 2014. A full restoration was entrusted to renowned restorer René Große, with over $1 million invested between 2015 and 2024.

Acquired by the current owner in 2024, this beautifully presented 315/1 stands among the finest of its kind in existence today.
